On May 21 & 22, 2019, the Model United Nations Conference (MUN) took place at Dinh Thien Ly High School with lively discussions on the topic of "Treatment of plastic waste and plastic microbeads in the oceans”.
Nowadays, there are millions of tons of waste, especially plastic waste, discharged to the oceans every year. Not only polluting the living environment of marine species, plastic waste also decomposes into plastic microbeads which penetrate the marine food chain and directly affect human health. As a country representative, every student who participated in the conference actively discussed and provided practical solutions to minimize waste in the oceans.
After meetings, arguments and lobby sessions, the delegates voted and made a general resolution which reached the highest consensus from the General Assembly. The success of MUN 2019 has proved that this is a chance for Dinh Thien Ly High School students to improve their debating skills to prepare for other MUN conferences in Vietnam and abroad.
MUN conference is an annual extracurricular activity organized by Dinh Thien Ly High School to provide students with useful experiences such as practicing rhetorical skills, diplomatic skills and critical thinking; improving awareness and sense of responsibility on global issues; improving ability to use English, especially academic English.
